My neighbors were getting rid of their old buffet and asked me if I would take it off their hands and I of course said "yes"!
Before:
The piece is big and it was shiny and orange, but I knew it could look great with a little paint. First I sanded the top down really well and applied AS dark wax because I wanted a natural finish on the top. I wanted the body to be chippy so I lightly sanded it and painted it with MMS French Enamel, but it chipped so much that the majority of the paint came off.
I decided that the chippy look was not going to work so I sanded it down and started over.
I mixed up Garlic Glove by Benjamin Moore into chalk paint and got to painting. After a few coats I distressed the edges, added new porcelain knobs and sealed it with clear wax. My husband saw the piece and loved it and suggested that we use it in our kitchen instead of the buffet we had. Sometimes he is brilliant! This piece stores more and I love it in our kitchen. Of course with a new piece of furniture I had to change up the whole look of the kitchen so I painted it the next day. I will share the transformation later on.
I love it in my kitchen!

Check out the buffet that changed my whole dining room http://vintagebarnchics.blogspot.com/2013/10/jennys-birthday-surprise-miss-mustard.html
ReplyDeleteIt was love at first sight!
Thank you --I looked at your buffet and it is beautiful!
DeleteThis turned out stunning!! I think your neighbors might be sorry they didn't keep it!! You are funny with the whole painting of the kitchen thing...I'm the same way, I cant even bring home a plant without re arranging the entire house! LOL! Funny how one thing can inspire a whole change.
ReplyDeleteTake care!
Smiles!
Terry
Thank you Terry--My hubby thought it was great but a little crazy, but he liked that he did not have to paint! Now I just have to find all new things for the walls! One thing leads to another sometimes!
Deleteso glad you shared this piece. not only do I love it, but I've been trying to think of how to add a shelf to the bottom of the wood coffee table I'm showing today - I think one like yours with short boards instead of one big board just might do the trick. thanks for the inspiration I needed today!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I hope your shelf works out and I am glad I could inspire. I would love to see your table when it is done.
DeleteOh what a great piece! I think this one was meant for you all along!
ReplyDeletethank you Sharon-I am so happy I kept it!

ReplyDeleteThank you Pam-I like it better painted too!
DeleteI love, love, LOVE your buffet! It is different than the traditional buffets that you see everywhere. I really don't think I would've seen the potential in the "before" but it is amazing . . . elegant and a bit farmhouse at the same time. Just my style!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Patti
