I grew up on a 600 acre horse ranch in Northern CA and the very small house we lived in was a 150 year old farmhouse that had chippy doors and a wood stove. My mom loved the color green and horses so these things remind me of home and my mom. When thinking about this contest I decided to paint an old dresser in Lucketts Green by Miss Mustard Seed.
Before:
This green one of my favorite colors and I thought the chest would look good with the rustic chippy look. The top of the dresser was in bad shape with lots of scratches and dings, so I stripped the high gloss finish off and sanded it. The wood was beautiful and I finished it off with dark wax and tung oil. After I painted the dresser I also sealed the paint with AS dark wax/tung oil.
My mom had an acre garden with mostly vegetables, but also flowers so Peonies were an easy choice to decorate with |
Horses were my Mom's favorite |
Gorgeous hardware |
This chippy doors reminds me of a door we had on our porch growing up |
I love how the wood top came out! |

DeleteYou did a beautiful job restoring the top of that dresser, the wood is gorgeous. I love the combo of that with the Luckett's. I bet your mom would be proud, unlike my mom who rolls her eyes at my pieces and simply can't understand why anyone would actually pay for a chippy piece of furniture ;-)

DeleteThis is so pretty and the reason that it caught my eye was because I just finished one very much like this...except someone cut the legs off and it has one less drawer than yours. I stripped and stained the top like you did and I painted the body French Linen Gray. I put large wheels on it and hope my daughter likes it well enough to use it as her coffee table. I will post it next week. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Terry-your piece sounds great too and I will have to check out your post about it!
