As usual I was at the Flea Market this weekend and found a great desk at my favorite venders stall. It was looking kind of rough, but had good bones so I loaded it up into my Volvo ( I use my SUV as a truck and can fit so much in it-Not my Hubby's favorite use of the Volov but......).
Before:
I wanted to make this desk have a couple of layers and a natural top. I sanded down the top and sealed it with AS dark wax and hemp oil mixed. Buttery smooth now.
I mixed up some home made chalk paint in a light blue ( Ooopsie paint from Kings Paint) and painted a couple of coats on the desk. Next I mixed up a darker smokey blue and a little white into chalk paint. I was going for a French blue and I like how it turned out. After the paint had dried I wet sanded the top coat off so the lighter color would show through. This sanding made me sweat up a storm! My next step was to scrape the paint with a scraper to get chipping and to get to the bare wood. The last step was to seal the desk with AS dark wax and hemp oil.

I do work full time, but from home so when I need a break from my computer I do a project and then feel tired but refreshed. Painting and working out are my things I do for myself so I can be happy and take care of my family.

Thank you Dore--the sweat was worth it-had to get a work out in anyways! I live in a 100+ old farm house on what use to be a dairy farm and the floors are old and they are different in every room! I love that they are not matching and I love living in an old house. I really enjoy reading your blog so thanks for coming by to mine.

DeleteQuick question for you ... am I reading your post right that you just sand down the top and use dark wax on it? No staining or use of other products? And do you normally get good results from this? Does the top have to be in fairly good condition going in for this to work? Any tips you want to share with me would be appreciated!
