Flow Blue Chippy Dresser

I found this falling apart dresser at the Flea Market and knew it could be a beauty again, so I loaded it up and brought it home.
 Before:
The dresser is worse then this picture shows!

The dresser had been sitting in an old barn and was missing 4 of the inside dresser drawer slides and the top drawer was literally in pieces.  Nothing a little glue, clamps and time can't fix!
D.D. to the rescue!

I had purchased MMS Flow Blue milk paint a few weeks back because I had never painted with this color and was wanting to try it on a dresser.  I love using MMS milk paint and this dresser was the piece to go for it.
After giving the dresser a couple of coats of this stunning blue,  I let it dry and the chippy magic happened.  After scraping the chips off, I sealed it with clear wax and then fell in love!
You now notice the details!

I like the knobs too-even if I forgot to wipe off the flakes of milk paint!

You can really see the beaded detail on the top drawers now

The blue even makes the flaws look good!

  6. I'm sure you know I'm not a fan of painting antiques, but that puppy was a mess and you did a great job with it :)

I'm always so impressed with your skills.

    1. Thank you Rue-I love to paint things, but if they are old and still beautiful and have great wood I don't paint. This piece was in BAD shape and had been left in a barn. The before picture looks better then it did in real life.

  7. That Flow Blue is so hard to capture in photos, isn't it? Nonetheless, the dresser looks amazing. I just love the chippy-ness of the milk paint on pieces like this. That beaded detail is fantastic.

  10. Oh, how I wish you could come here and find some old piece and do your magic for me! My chest of drawers, made out of something that is not real wood, is sinking in with the weight of my TV. I have books stacked in the top drawer just so I can open it to get to clothing.
