My Farm Dresser and The ORC: Week 2

While at the Flea Market this week, I cam upon a pair of dressers that I fell for hard.

Before:

The man selling them said he pulled them from his grandmothers barn, and that of course made me love them even more!  They were dinged, scratched, water marked, and most of the drawers were in pieces, but they had so much potential!

Yucky Top!

I am going to try to put both in my new office and in-between them, place my chippy fabric cabinet.  They will be great for storage and as a work top.

I sanded the top and the drawer fronts of the green dresser and then stained and sealed them with AS dark wax and Linseed oil.

You can see how the wax/oil adds richness

I love the rich wood color!

I liked the green color that was on the dresser, so after a very good scrub down, I scraped and chipped it up.

To get the layers and the chippiness, I hand scraped the edges and the paint with my paint scraper until I got the look I wanted.

I love the "dirty" look!

I wanted the wood on the body of the dresser to be dark and rich too,  so I did a quick sand and then sealed the entire dresser (painted parts and wood parts) with the AS dark wax and Linseed oil.  This not only darkened the wood, but gave the paint an aged patina that I like.

Since I am going to be using this in my office for storage and as a work surface, I decided to add the silver pulls.

I know the top pull is crooked-the original hole was crooked  and I only noticed when I was taking pictures!

The last step was getting my wood glue and clamps out and fixing all three drawers!

I bought the pulls new, but sanded them down so they were not so shiny and over time they hopefully will rust and age a bit.

I love the wooden castors!

How perfect is the imperfect top?

I love how the dark wax sticks in the corners for and crevices!

I love the imperfect top!

I can't wait to get the other dresser done and in my new office!
