American Flag with a Rustic Frame

As you know I have been decorating my husband's new office at the high school were he works and there is a large wall that I was envisioning with an American Flag.  I wasn't sure if I was going to build one out of wood or find and older one and frame it.  While out junking with my friend Heather last week, I found a great older flag that was perfect for what I had in mind.

My neighbor happened to be taking down her old fence and I asked her if I could have her old fence boards.  While we were on vacation, the whole fence was dropped off in piles and when we got home I was very happy to see all the old wood.  My Father in Law -Papa- lives with us and he is a very good woodworker, so I asked him to help me make a frame for the flag.  He cut the wood and then hand drilled holes for dowels in the corners.  We glued it together and then also added the L braces for extra support.

I stapled the flag to the back of the frame and added a thin piece of plywood for extra support.  This flag and frame are 70 in. long and 50 in wide so it is very large.
I LOVE this Flag!!
