The Chippy Green Empire Dresser

Last week I found this great old empire dresser at the Flea Market and I fell in love with it even thought is was chipped and dinged and scratched.

Before:
I wish I could have saved the wood, but it was too damaged for my skills.  I knew it would look good in a chippy green, so I pulled out Boxwood Green and Ironstone by Miss Mustard Seed  and made my own color.  I only had a little bit of the Ironstone left in my bag ( not enough to paint a piece), so I added a few scoops of the green.  I really wanted to make a color similar to Luckette's Green since I love that MMS color.

I painted the dresser with two coats of milk paint, let it dry, and the chippy magic started to happen.  I helped the chipping along by scraping the dresser with my spackle knife.

I sealed the dresser with AS dark wax/Lindseed oil and added beautiful large glass knobs.

Chippy Goodness!

Love those curves!

I love this Lemon Cypress I bought from Clementine and Co.

  1. You do Green distressed beautifully. I admire your transformations and you hit this piece out of the ball park with your choice of the square glass knobs.

  2. It's perfect and you seem to have mastered using MMS Milk Paint. I can't seem to mix it up properly..I've watched her videos, tried adding water to the powder, adder powder to the water...but I can't seem to get it to a good consistency! Oh well...not meant to be for me, but your transformations with her paint are perfect! :) ~ Robin

  5. I love the green and the chippyness but think I would prefer a round knob. The angular ones seem to me to fight with the curves of the dresser. But it is a great old piece and you did a good job with the paint.

  14. I am such a sucker for those empire dressers! And as always, you created a gorgeous piece. I love Luckett's Green too, I was so sure that was the color until you said you mixed Boxwood and Ironstone! It looks almost exactly the same. Would you pop over and share this at our furniture-themed link party, Friday's Furniture Fix? We would love to have you :)http://www.lostandfounddecor.com/fridays-furniture-fix-27/
