Carmel Blue Dresser

I am always on the hunt for dressers and I found this one at the Flea Market.  It needed some serious work on the top, but was very solid and well built so I bought it.
Before:

When I got it home I got out my scraper and started to chip away at the veneer that was coming off.  I have found that for me the best way to remove veneer is with a hammer  and a Spackle scraper.  I angle the scraper under the veneer and then hit it softly with the hammer.  I make sure I really angle the scraper.  I had to remove all of the veneer from the top of this piece and it took me awhile, but it was worth it.  I next mixed up my home-made chalk paint in Carmel Blue and painted away. The last step was distress the edges and to dark wax the piece.

Love the old hardware

This was gone fast!

  2. That color is fantastic! I did a post a couple weeks back on a slightly easier way to remove veneer if it happens to come in handy for any future pieces. :)

  10. What a lovely makeover, I didn't realize you could remove veneer, what a clever idea. I must say, I do love the color you mixed up it is gorgeous. I love the handles too, they are very similar handles on a chest I recently re-finished.

    Thank you for sharing.
