Dresser in Milk Paint

While driving through my neighborhood last week I spotted a yard sale and of course went to check it out.  I found this  potentially cute dresser and brought it home.
Before:
It was a well made vintage dresser that was all dinged and scratched up, but ready for a new look.  I thought this dresser would look good in a chippy milk paint so I mixed together a few of Miss Mustard Seeds milk paints in her blues for a custom color.  I wanted the top to be natural wood, so I sanded the top and stained it with AS dark wax and some hemp oil.  After painting a few coats of milk paint the chippy magic happened and I scraped the loose chips off and sealed the dresser with dark wax/hemp oil.  The final step was adding glass knobs (dlawlesshardware.com) to the dresser to give it a little pizazz!

Looking good with some pink!

  3. How pretty that turned out to be! What a great transformation...I probably would have walked right by that piece at the yard sale. You staged the piece beautifully with those flowers, too. Great job!

  4. This looks great, you have done a wonderful job. I just love transforming garage sale goodies. The glass knobs are lovely, where did you get them from? I have been going to the markets every week to get flowers and it's amazing how clean and fresh they just make a space feel. I really like your choice of flowers :-)

    1. Thank you Lisa-I got the knobs at http://www.dlawlesshardware.com. and they were a good deal. TJ is a good place for me when I do not get a bouquet from the local florist. Lately I have been making my own arrangements.

    1. Thank you Elizabeth-Milk paint is fun to paint with since it is unpredictable and you never get the same look.

  15. Can I just say how jealous I am that you got to go to a yard sale in January! Sigh. Here in Minnesota, we just dream of yard sales this time of year, and know that they are still rather far away.

    1. Thanks Quandie-the weather is in the 70s here is CA by the beach so there have been a few yard sales. There will be more in the Spring for sure!

  17. You did a great job; it looks beautiful. I have an empire-style table and dresser that I'd like to try in this manner, with a lightened wood top and a blue body. I saw your link at the Vintage Inspiration Party. Ann Marie @ Iris Abbey www.irisabbey.com
