Now you know me and my painting obsession-I paint everything! There are times when I find pieces of furniture that have beautiful wood and I just can't take my paint brush to them and this dresser was one of them. Before:
This picture doesn't really show how scratched up and dinged the dresser really was. There were white marks on the sides, big scratches on the front and the top was a mess. I like a challenge and this was one for sure! I decided to start with the top and I stripped off the old finish and stain-shuch a pain to do! It defiantly looked good after, but I wasn't about to do that for the entire dresser with its curved front and all. I decided to try using dark wax on the dresser to see if it would help. I first lightly scratched all the white makes off and then I applied the AS dark wax. It worked like a charm! I was amazed and so happy. The dark wax covered the scratches and dings and made the entire dresser a deeper color and it became less orange.
This is a really beautiful piece. I so agree with you about not painting gorgeous wood like this. And I like painting furniture, so it's not that I'm against the idea. But this one? No. Great job on restoring it. ~ Nancy
Thank you Nancy-If I can I try to rescue and transform beautiful wood, but I end up painting most pieces because I like to fink the worst ones to rescue and make beautiful again. It's a challenge!
Darrielle, you have revived a sad looking dresser into a beautiful piece of furniture. I ♥ bird's eye maple, it reminds me of my dad who loved working with it. Have a wonderful week.
Aren't you a smarty pants Darrielle. I'm going to pin this tip for future reference should I ever need it - thanks! Birds Eye Maple is such a beautiful wood and one that even this painting everything that doesn't move lady wouldn't dare paint. The dresser is gorgeous!

You did a great job on this dresser. I love birdseye maple. I have a dresser with mirror and 2 chest of drawers that belonged to my grandparents. Such treasures. You did a great job on this dresser.

When I was little, I always loved my grandma's birds eye dresser (she was French and called it a bureau). I still think it's a beautiful wood. I'm glad this was in good enough shape that you could rescue it and restore its glory. Nice job!
