Dump to Darling Dresser

When  I was visiting my 96 year old grandmother and other family members at Christmas time I found this old dresser that was going to the dump.
Before:
The dresser was study and well made, but missing all the knobs and it was pretty dinged up.  I of course thought it was darling and loaded it up into my car to take home.  My family has gotten use to this kind of thing!
After giving the dresser a good cleaning I decided that it also needed legs.  Luckily I had 4 legs that I had bought at the Flea Market in my workshop, so I added them.

I decided that white was the new color for the dresser, so I made chalk paint from Garlic Clove by Benjamin Moore.  After the paint dried I distressed the edges and sealed it with clear wax.  The last step was adding gilding paste to the details on the sides and the knobs.

Love that sentence, "Going to the dump!!!"

That's where I jump in and say, 'That means it's going into my car and thank you!!!' The gems that I have been given is amazing!!!

  8. I love this dresser. Your makeover gives me some good ideas for spicing up a very plain dresser I have. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving the very nice comment about Su's guest post. I appreciate that, and I'm glad you did for it brought me here. You said you live in a small home. What's the square footage, if you don't mind me asking. I love your style! ~ Nancy

    1. Thank you Nancy--I live in a 100+ year old farm house that is about 1400 sq. feet. It was the original dairy farm house for the area. We are now surrounded by new homes, but I love my house the best!
