Large Chippy Rocking Horse

Awhile back I bought a very large and heavy rocking horse that had so much potential.  
Before:

I debated about painting it or keeping it as is and decided to paint it a chippy white and grey.  I have admired Miss Mustard Seed's horse and so that is what inspired me.  I first painted the horse in grey chalk paint so that the grey  would show up if the milk paint chipped. Next I mixed up MMS Ironstone milk paint for the body of the horse. I wanted a crackle finish, so I painted on multiple coats of milk paint and I dried each layer with my hair dryer on hot. This made the paint dry fast and have lots of crackle.  

After the Ironstone paint had dried I used my scraper to get a chippy look and have some of the grey show through.  

I painted the base in grey and added character with dark wax and then painted the rocking part in black.  The final step was to seal it all with clear wax.
