Argyle Dresser

I am so glad I am able to create a post-my computer has been on the fritz and I have lost a lot, but still managed to find a few pictures.

This months Fab Furniture Flipping contest was sponsored by  General Finishes and the theme was creating something with a geometric pattern using GF paint that they so kindly donated to the participants.
I decided to makeover a very simple and basic dresser I had into something with pizzaz and interest.
Before:
I was folding laundry one day and noticed how much I liked a pair of my husband's argyle socks, so I decided my dresser  would also look good in argyle!  I had ordered Corinth Blue Milk Paint from General Finishes , but the color was darker then I was picturing for my argyle print, so I lightened the blue with white to get a preppy blue.  I painted the entire dresser blue and after it had dried I taped off the diamond shapes with Frog Tape.  I painted the Olive green  and then the Avocado green paint in the diamonds and when they had dried I pulled off the tape.  The next step was to make the dashed white lines and I did this by using a fine-tip chalk pen and a ruler.  The last step for this dresser was to seal it with Tung oil.

I love how smooth and easy the GF paint went on my dresser-it made painting easy-peasy!

35 bloggers entered this month’s contest – stop by the FFFC website to see other fabulous projects. If you are interested in participating in a future contest contact info@fabfurnitureflippincontest.com.

Fall Blog Home Tour At Our Cottage

(This is our front door, but it was originally the back door. We added the porch and walkway.)

Brenda from Cozy Little House asked me if I wanted to be in her Fall Blog tour, and of course I was honored. I am a rookie at doing a Blog Tour, but welcome to my home.

(Worn front steps with touches of fall)
I live in a 100+ year old farmhouse/cottage in California with my husband, daughter and our dog Hudson. Our home is small and cozy and has lots of natural light and windows. We have slowly updated the farmhouse over the years.

Oddly enough, you enter our home right into our kitchen, which is not very common.

Here is a large buffet that I refinished and now use for storage in our small kitchen.

Rusty crusty oyster basket

Felt pumpkin garland

I have always wanted a fireplace in our home, so I bought and painted a mantle, which will have to satisfy me for now!

The Hydrangeas came from my neighbors backyard

When you walk through the kitchen you enter a large living/dining room.

I had a farm table built many years ago and I painted the legs with MMS milk paint.

A galvanized tray is filled with all things fall. I love to add hydrangeas for extra color and texture.

To separate the dining space from our living space, I refinished a wooden console table that we have had since we were first married (about 20 years ago).

Here is our living space, an eclectic room filled with treasures I love.

To the side of the living room is a sun room, which is actually a converted front porch. This is one of my favorite spaces in our home.

The room has many windows, and it is where my family and I  love to relax and read.

My dad gave the piano to my daughter on her first birthday so she would always have a love of music.

This is the other side of the living room, which has another couch.

My FIL built the frame behind the couch for me out of old wood I found at the salvage yard.

Here I have a smattering of fall decor, fresh flowers and an asparagus fern. Mixing nature in all its forms.

Across from the couch is our TV. An oil  painting of the sea that I found at the Flea Market is hung on the wall just above it.
I bought the chair on CL and had it reupholstered

We recently went through a remodel/addition to create a new master suite and to add a new bathroom.

I bought a buffet from CL, added appliqués, and painted it with MMS milk paint.

I designed the shower using shiplap and subway tile.

Here is our new master bedroom. The new headboard is made from 100 year planks saved from the demolition of the house.

More Fall around the house.

I hope you have enjoyed this tour of my home.
