(This is our front door, but it was originally the back door. We added the porch and walkway.)

Brenda from Cozy Little House asked me if I wanted to be in her Fall Blog tour, and of course I was honored. I am a rookie at doing a Blog Tour, but welcome to my home.
(Worn front steps with touches of fall) |
I live in a 100+ year old farmhouse/cottage in California with my husband, daughter and our dog Hudson. Our home is small and cozy and has lots of natural light and windows. We have slowly updated the farmhouse over the years.
Oddly enough, you enter our home right into our kitchen, which is not very common.
Here is a large buffet that I refinished and now use for storage in our small kitchen.
Rusty crusty oyster basket |
Felt pumpkin garland |
I have always wanted a fireplace in our home, so I bought and painted a mantle, which will have to satisfy me for now!
The Hydrangeas came from my neighbors backyard |
When you walk through the kitchen you enter a large living/dining room.
I had a farm table built many years ago and I painted the legs with MMS milk paint.
A galvanized tray is filled with all things fall. I love to add hydrangeas for extra color and texture.
To separate the dining space from our living space, I refinished a wooden console table that we have had since we were first married (about 20 years ago).
|
Here is our living space, an eclectic room filled with treasures I love.
To the side of the living room is a sun room, which is actually a converted front porch. This is one of my favorite spaces in our home.
The room has many windows, and it is where my family and I love to relax and read.
My dad gave the piano to my daughter on her first birthday so she would always have a love of music.
This is the other side of the living room, which has another couch.
My FIL built the frame behind the couch for me out of old wood I found at the salvage yard.
|
I bought the chair on CL and had it reupholstered |
We recently went through a remodel/addition to create a new master suite and to add a new bathroom.
I bought a buffet from CL, added appliqués, and painted it with MMS milk paint.
|
I designed the shower using shiplap and subway tile. Here is our new master bedroom. The new headboard is made from 100 year planks saved from the demolition of the house. |
I hope you have enjoyed this tour of my home.

DeleteI love what you have done with your house, it looks so peaceful and pretty. Also it's fun to see an old California house.
ReplyDeleteThank you-I think it is peaceful too and oldish!
DeleteEvery room is gorgeous, but my favorite piece is that buffet. You did a great job decorating it.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize you were also a California girl and I am curious about why your back door is now your front door. That is our story also. There used to be sidewalks down the front of the houses to the beach that were closed off. That's why the back of our house is now the entrance.
Thank you Carol-our back door is our front because our house use to be the farm house for a dairy farm and the neighborhood with all the newer homes was not here then. The real front door leads into our sunroom, but you can not park on the street that is outside due to the newer sidewalks. Our driveway is by the back door and so it is now our front door that opens into the kitchen! We built the porch to make it more inviting when we moved in. I live in Santa Cruz, CA. How about yours?
DeleteEverything looks awesome Darrielle! I still have to say the milk paint buffet bathroom vanity is still my absolute favorite!
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda-I love the vanity too!
