I have not been posting as much lately because I am having a hard time keeping up with everything that makes up my life, but I am going to try to be more consistent !
I found a cute vintage dresser at the Flea Market and of course brought it home.
Before:
It is hard to tell from this picture, but the top of this dresser was covered in paper that had been glued down and then underneath that the ENTIRE top was covered in clear plastic packaging tape! I have never see the likes of this and it was extremely difficult to remove.
After sanding, stripping and more sanding, the top was good to go. I purposely left a bit of paint and imperfections on the wood (character).
I sealed the top with AS dark wax/Linseed oil.
I don't paint many pieces white, but this dresser just felt like staying light and bright to me. I pulled out Marshmallow Cream by The Urban Rooster and painted the dresser with 2 coats of the chalk paint.
After the paint dried, I distressed the edges and then sealed it with Clear Carnuba Wax by The Real Milk Paint Company.

ReplyDeleteThank you Linda-it was a such a drag to get the tape off! Glad I did!
DeleteWhite was a lovely choice for this piece! Were those the original pulls on it? They are amazing....such gorgeous detail lost on the back drop of a dark wooden drawer...but so pretty now contrasted against the white!
ReplyDeleteThank you Robin-the pulls came with the dresser and I LOVE them and now they do show with the white!

Thank you Cynthia-I do like my local Flea for sure. It is hard to keep up for sure!
DeleteSuper cute. Why in the world did they do that to the top? It's amazing what happens to furniture over the years. It is such a darling piece. Great job.
ReplyDeleteThank you Katie-I have no idea why someone would try to protect the top with tape, but I am glad I could get it off!
DeleteWhat an incredible find! It was cute before (except for that awful top) but you made it even better. Love the natural top and those gorgeous handles.
ReplyDeleteThank you Betsy-the top was soooooooo awful!
DeleteI agree with Benita-
ReplyDeleteI love the contrast you created with the wood top and the white dresser.
You are an amazing photographer and stylist.

Marshmallow Cream is the perfect name for that color! You find the best furniture pieces...well, they are the best after you are finished.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful piece of furniture, I have a chest of drawers that's very similar that I use for my craft supplies :)
ReplyDeleteI love all of the details of the dresser and how you kept it white. The top does look good with the remnants of its past. It is beautiful.
