Grey Drexel End Table

I have been MIA since the beginning of the weekend and the reason why is that our power went out and then the internet was down for 2 more days after-no Wi-Fi=no blog!
Here is my house with only candle light and no electricity!
Back to furniture-I found this very sturdy end table made by Drexel awhile back at the Flea Market.
Before:
I thought it had potential so it came home with me.  After a quick clean I painted it Smokey Ash by The Urban Rooster. I love that this is a brown grey and not blue, it feels like a true grey to me.   To highlight the details I added gilding paste with my fingers and then sealed it with hemp oil/wax.  If you add the gilding paste first before waxing then much of it will rub off when you are wiping/rubbing the oil/wax in, but I wanted this to happen for a worn look.

  4. Beautiful work! Love it! Are you in Northern California? I noted your mentioning power outage. I live on the Mendocino coast and we were out on and off for 3 days! I worked in grey on a dresser!

  7. The color is lovely! I to liked that it is a brownish grey and not to blue. Greys often tend to do that, but this was perfect!

  11. Never thought I'd love gray but now really do. Love how your really nice Drexel table looks in that gray now. The distressed gold on highlights looks perfect for effect you were going for.
Last summer I found medium gray for background curtains with fancy white design on them at TJMaxx on clearance and that made decision of what color our living room would be. Also had big grommets on top which I love for opening/closing curtains. Our living room was dark as it faced east on front/west on back. The really light gray paint lightened up room so much it's so much nicer to be in. Got new to us white background, sleeper sofa at Habitat. Couch we had was given to us, I never liked it, was dark like a big hole in room. Tried to cover it but was just too bulky for our room.
I used vintage tablecloths to cover a chair I'd also gotten at Habitat few years ago and used couple to partly cover the couch. I have several vintage table cloths which I've used to make table runners, pillow covers and now curtains this past week for our kitchen and master bath windows. Decided since we don't have an eating area or table/chairs I might as well use the tablecloths instead of storing them. We have a small single wide mfg. home. Didn't like that it didn't have dining area but was all we could afford here, it's very expensive to buy home compared to KY where we moved from. We have 1/2 acre out in country few miles west of Grand Junction, CO which is what we wanted so had to compromise on size of house. It's just us two and our furry/feathery kidz; One black lab/border collie, one orange cat, and as of this past summer 5 chickens. It works for us.
That would be frustrating not to have electricity or internet. The internet cable company in G.J. has had lots of trouble wth their internet, big fuss in town. We have Hughes Net or Century Link. We had Century Link for 6 yrs. til I got fed up, every time somebody would go down to box to work at end of our road we'd be without internet for few days. Not many choices out here but that's price of living away from town. Only problem we've had with Hughes Net is it's really slow sometimes. When we lived out in country in KY every time the wind blew badly before a storm our power would go out all the time for hours.
Hope your have everything all fixed now. Happy Valentine day

    1. Thanks! I painted my house in Alaskan Husky Grey by Benjamin Moore and love it too. Not having internet was not fun that is for sure. I love using vintage table clothes for many things too. I have a massive collection and have them on my table all the time, but do not let my family eat on them. I can more about my table clothes then the table! Ha ha ha! Have a agree day too!
