Lemon Meringue Dresser

This past week while at the Goodwill I spied this funky, yet well made dresser, so I loaded it up and brought it home. 
Before:
I did not like the piece of decorative wood at the top of the drawers, so that had to come off first.  I cut a new piece and nailed it on.  A few weeks ago I say Miss Mustard Seed's post about her yellow dresser and I knew I wanted to do a piece inspired by it.  I haven't tried Lemon Meringue by  The Urban Rooster , so I got it out and painted 2 coats on the dresser. I wanted to hand paint a design on the front of the dresser, so I pulled out white chalk paint and a small artist brush.  I just sort of let the dresser inspire me. 


  I thought there were a lot of straight lines, so I painted a wreath in the middle of the drawers and then I added a similar detail on the sides. I enjoy the concentration of hand painting-for some reason it is relaxing for me and lets me feel creative. 

 I distressed and chipped the paint to help age it.  The color was a little to bright and sunny for the look I was going for, so I aged and darkened it with AS dark wax/tung oil.  

 The last step to finish the dresser off was to put on pretty knobs by  D. Lawless Hardware  .

I had a difficult time capturing the true mustard yellow of this dresser in my photo, but it is very pretty in real life.  It is looking for a new home!

    It looks like a totally different dresser! So, I need the details, how did you 'chip' the Urban Rooster paint? Does it chip like milk paint, or did you use a scraper of some kind to get that result? I thought for sure you had used MMS Mustard Seed yellow on this one because the chipping looks so authentic.

    Thank you Linda-what I did was rub some candle wax on the wood in places I wanted to chip or not have paint. I usually do it for layers, but the wood on this dresser was pretty dry so I knew it would soak up the paint. I have used candle wax for years and love it!

      Ah, OK. Good to know. I use canning wax for the same purpose. I'll have to try that with my Urban Rooster paint ;-)

    Very pretty makeover! I love the hand painting and the distressing gives it such a natural vintage feel. The color is perfect!
