Bold Aqua Chair-bare bones to beauty!

I have a customer who has a shop and she was doing a bold window display and needed a chair re-done.  She gave me the fabric and then asked me to make the chair beautiful.  I love it when a clients lets me have freedom to do a piece the way I see it in my head.
Before:

It was a chair with great bones, but that was about it.  I took out the springs because I wanted to make a new seat.
I mixed up a batch of home-made chalk paint in an aqua blue and painted and waxed the chair.  The hardest part for me was making the seat and cushion.  I am not an upholsterer, but I am good at figuring things out.  I cut 2 boards to fit over the seat frame and nailed them down.  The next step was cutting some foam I had to the shape of the seat.  I then covered the foam in batting.

I cut the fabric to the approximate size of the seat making sure the main print was centered on the cushion.  Stapling was the next step and then trimming off the extra fabric.  The last step was to glue on some trim.  I delivered the chair to the store and put it in the front window display.  I got a call about an hour later that the chair had sold!  Amazing!

    1. Thank you Sheryl-I like a challenge when it comes to being creative! Its fun to try and figure a problem out and then have it turn out beautiful! I grew up on a ranch and when things needed to be done or fixed you just figured it out and fixed it.

    1. Thank you Ellen--The fabric is called Portobello Vase and I think it is by Williamsburg (Colonial Williamsburg Foundation). Al least that is what is printed on the sides of the fabric. It is linen and stunning!

  4. Now that is a beautiful chair!! The color..the fabric...everything is gorgeous. I have been taking an upholstery class for a few months now and they are teaching us "the old way". It takes forever! I think I am going to get a staple gun and an air compressor and start doing my own projects at home.
