How to give a basket a French look

I am getting ready for the Spring show of Mes Amis Antique and Vintage Show   and so many "little" projects are getting done.  I found two large baskets with wooden handles at the thrift store and knew they could look Frenchy.
Before:
After a good clean, I got some home-made chalk paints out in a grey and a grey/blue and gave each basket two coats of paint.  After the paint had dried, I dry brushed on white chalk paint.  To do this I dipped my brush in the white and then wiped the excess off on the edge of the can.  You only need a little paint on the brush.  I then brushed it on the basket in big sweeping strokes so the white paint was spread out in a feathery like pattern.  The paint dries quickly and I was done!

  5. What a great find in those. I would love to find some with wooden handles. They look fantastic. How do you clean your baskets so as not to damage them, please? I have some I need to clean....I'm sure you have a fab method.

    1. Thank you Debbie-I wish I had a fab way , but I just sprayed them with a natural cleaner and wipe down. These were not dirty at all so I was lucky. After I sprayed them with a natural cleaner I just put them in the sun.
