Custom French Headboard

Last week a new client dropped off her headboard for me to paint.  I can't find the "before", but it was just white and my client wanted the headboard to have an "Old World" look.  I am going to be painting her entire bedroom set and after looking at paint colors, she decided the headboard should be Antique White by  The Urban Rooster .   I painted the headboard with 2 coats of Antique White, distressed lightly,  and then I used clear wax to seal the paint. To give the details the aged look I went back with my brush and using AS dark I feathered the wax in and then wiped it off with a cotton cloth.  I used the wax on all the edges to give them the aged patina.

Gorgeous details

  2. Very pretty. It has great bones, but I can imagine in all white a lot of the pretty details were lost. This seems to the what the piece was meant to be. Lovely.

  16. So thankful you did this post today. I have been trying to get the same look, but kept getting the wrong outcome. Going to try your trick of just putting the dark wax in the cracks and edges. Love that headboard. Wondering how it attaches to the bed?

    1. Thank you Sugar-i made sure there was enough clear wax first so the dark wax didn't go on too dark. I also used very little dark wax on my brush. Good luck! I think it attaches to the wall above the mattress.
