French Provincial Buffet/Dresser

About a week ago I bought this Thomasville French Provincial buffet off of Craigslist and was doing a happy dance when I brought it home.
Before:

The top was in pretty bad shape, but the rest of it was very study but dark.  I got out a few colors from The Urban Rooster and mixed up my own color that I am calling Serenity blue (soft grey-blue color like you would find at the beach).

I sanded down the top with my hand sander and then stained and sealed it with AS dark wax and Tung oil.  I love the buttery smooth finish to this technique. I then painted the base of the pieces with 2 coats of Serenity Blue and lightly distressed the edges.  To seal the piece and give it some character I used my dark wax/tung oil treatment.
 I ADORE it now!

  1. Okay, one of 2 things is going to happen. You fly your little "happy dancing" self down to Nashville and help me find a piece like this AND help me redo it (you've seen what a failure I am at things things)....OR...we work out some pricing and shipping. This will go perfectly in the new house...toss a coin and make a decision. ;-)

  13. Oh, this is gorgeous. Serenity Blue looks very soothing, and that hardware! But I'm most intrigued by your technique of combining AS dark wax with tung oil. You say it creates a buttery smooth finish. Mmmm. I'll have to give it a try. I saw your link at French Country Cottage. Ann Marie @ Iris Abbey www.irisabbey.com

  18. Beatiful. How did you do the top? You said you stained it, what color? Or is it just sealed with AS dark wax and tung oil. Love the effect.
