My Vintage Farm Table

I have been wanting a new coffee table for awhile and about a week ago I found a great table with lots of potential at the Flea Market.

Before:
I fell in love with the wide planks on the top, the great legs and the two drawers.

The top needed some major help, but I knew it could be gorgeous again.  I sanded down the planks and then sealed and stained the gorgeous old wood with AS dark wax/Lindseed oil.
For the base of the table, I mixed up my own chalk paint (Plaster of Paris and Garlic Clove by BM).  I wanted a chippy farmhouse style look for this table and I was out of milk paint, so I created my own chippy look.  I rubbed an old candle on the edges and the areas where I wanted the wood to show.  The wax creates a resist and the paint doesn't stick.
To help the chipping along, I scraped the piece with my spackle knife as well.

I sealed the table with clear carnauba wax and then put it in my living room!

I love the two drawers with the porcelain knobs!

I love the rich wood and its color!

Beautiful roses ad tulips for Spring!

Look at those planks!

  2. It looks fantastic! Love the rich tone of the wood and complimented with the white gorgeous. I too have used the candle trick, worlds amazingly well. I wish I had drawers on my factory cart table because I'd be tucking all those remotes inside! Roses and Tulips are my favorite flowers and I love them combined.

  11. Wow, the coffee table is definitely a winner. You did a great job of bringing the top back to beautiful. I love the wide boards, too, and I especially like the narrower boards that go across each end. Very nice job with the legs, too. It looks like something high end made just for your living room. I want one just like it!
