One Room Challenge: My Home Office: Week 1

Thank you Linda, for hosting the one room challenge ORC .
I've never participated before, because I have had a hard time deciding what room I could re-do in 5 weeks.  I am ready and I am excited to participate as a guest.

My house is pretty put together and I keep it neat and clean for the most part, however, my home office is an embarrassment!  I work from home and spend a lot of time in my office so you would think it would be nice, but it is a disaster!  At times is is organized and neat, but since our remodel/addition it is the space were junk is stored and it has become the catch-all room.  During our Re-model I had to clear my office out completely and change it into our bedroom and after we moved back into our new bedroom, my office just became a a junk/storage place where I happen to work from. I hate it and it drives me batty with all the mess.
Here are the before Pictures--(you might want to cover your eyes!)

Boxes of craft and office supplies that were never unpacked!

Since our house is over 100 years old all the rooms are small and there is not much storage space.  I have a lot of craft and sewing materials and I need a place to store them that is not only pretty but organized.  I also work from home for my job, so I need my office to be comfy and practical for work.

The way my mind works is that I need to come up with a general feel/or look to my new space and then the details will just come naturally.  I am pretty good about picturing what the new space will look like in my head once I decide on a look.

Inspiration Ideas:

Some things I plan on doing to complete the One Room Challenge:

So Many Ideas and I am excited to get going and have an organized calm space to work in!

I will be posting weekly progress on my new home office, so wish me luck!

I believe it's Brooke's old office before her Patina Farm home, and books. Her blog is Velvet and Linen.
I may be mistaken due to the similar vibe style, but I can see why your office choices inspire you...

See you soon with an update to your new office that I am sure will join all the photos out there of office spaces that inspire.

  6. It will be fun to watch your progress over the next 5 weeks. I also live in an old home and realize one honors and respects a homes legacy and inspiration comes from different styles and periods. I find great interest in your inspiration photos and will enjoy seeing your chosen thought out mix. Everything I've seen in photos of your home warms my heart and beckons relaxation. A home office - I get working from home, I too do. It will be an absolute delight to follow your makeover.

  9. I took pictures of my office, but the ORC professional participants scared me off. Then I saw your post on my bloglist and read how simple your plan is compared to theirs and decided I didn't have to have a complete plan to start either. Thanks for the inspiration to just "do it".
