My Home Office Reveal--One Room Challenge

Wheeeeeew-I am glad to be done with my office!

I decided this year to be a guest participant in The One Room Challenge by Linda at  Calling It Home
 Here is my office before:

I work from home and for awhile now my office has been the catch-all room.

At one time my office was organized and decorated, but after our remodel-it just became the jnk room where I worked from and I was tired of the mess.

When I first started the challenge I planned on painting the book shelves I had so I could have storage in my office.  I need lots of storage since I work from home and my house was built in 1912 and has small closets and little storage.
I do a lot of projects and I need space to storage all my supplies.

I made part of this room transformation very difficult for myself.  I found a pair of very similar old dressers at the Flea Market and sanded the drawers and painted them green.  One day while driving, a thought popped into my head that the dressers would look great in my office and provide storage and a workspace.

I had to cut the edges off of one to make it fit, but after I put them in the room I didn't like them there.  My office only has one window and does not get a lot of direct sunlight because of the porch, so the dark wood and green made my office feel dark and I didn't like it.

I love the dressers wood and green and I basically cried when I painted them white!

Once I had the dressers painted and back in my room, I loved them!

I added open shelves above the dressers for more storage.

I also painted my desk in white and painted my storgare chest of drawers in a soft coastal blue and white

I am still looking for a very comfortable office chair, but I did paint this chair in milk paint by Miss Mustard Seed and I covered the seat with vintage fabric.

My husband helped me hang my new vintage chandelier after I had it rewired.

I hung new curtains and bought a new rug

I added a very old window and some family photos to the wall

I love my chippy fabric cabinet that I painted with milk paint by Miss Mustard Seed.

I love fabric and vintage linens!
I removed the middle wooden panels of this cabinet and added chicken wire so I could see my colorful fabrics!

I love my new office!

I am so glad I participated in The One Room Challenge by Linda at Calling It Home

  6. Your office turned out very nicely...amazing what a little paint can do for anything, isn't it? I really liked the dressers green, but now that I see them white, I think your decision to do the white makes all the difference in the way the room looks. The shelving looks great, too. I don't sew, but every time I see your fabric armoire, I smile. Last, but not least, I love the fabric you used on your desk chair, it is so spunky!
    Have a great weekend, Darrielle.

    1. Thank you Marigene-I loved the dressers green and literally lost sleep over having to paint them. They just made the room way to dark and I tried other pieces of furniture in the office too, but in the end I really wanted those tow similar dressers and I needed them to be white to lighten the room. I love the fabric on my chair too-so stinkin cute!

  17. I don't know what is with old chippy cabinets with stacks of fabric (or quilts) in them that makes me so happy? I think that cabinet with the dressers on either side is the most beautiful set up I have seen. You have such an eye for creating and I am jealous. Even if I had everything you put in your room, I never would have come up with what you did. Great job!
