White Farm Dresser

I have had a hard time finding old dressers lately, but I did find this great grungy old one a few weeks back.  

Before:

I love the look and the details, but every drawer needed to be fixed and the the top was a disaster! 

I stripped the top and sanded it down.  

I purposely left bits of paint and I love all the scrapes and gouges.  I sealed it with Linseed oil and left it like this.  

After a quick clean, I painted the base of the dresser with home-made chalk paint in Garlic Clove by Benjamin Moore. 

I love the slated sides!  Swoon! 

After the paint dried,  I scraped the edges for a worn, chippy finish and sealed the dresser with AS clear wax.  

The final touch was adding old porcelain knobs. 

I love the wooden castors! 

This is a great keyhole detail!

Swirls, Turns and Chippy Goodness

I have been enjoying summer and neglecting my blog, but I hope to change that.  Sitting in front of my computer has just not appealed to me lately, but I have been using my paintbrush a lot! 

Awhile ago I found a really neat table with great lines that just needed a bit of TLC. 

Before: 

The table has great turned legs and wonderful details, but the wood was in pretty bad shape. 

I gave the top a good sanding with my electric sander and then sealed it with AS dark wax/Linseed Oil.

The top ended up beautiful! 

I decided I wanted the table to have a chippy look, so I mixed up some Milk Paint from Miss Mustard Seed in Ironstone.  

I gave the table a couple of coats of MMS milk paint and then as it dried watched the chippy magic happen. 

I scraped the flakes off and sealed the table with clear carnauba wax. 

Love this chippy table now!

From Dining Table to Desk: Farmhouse Style

When I have time, I like to look at the furniture for sale on Craigslist.  I spotted a drop leaf table for sale and was interested.  

Before:

I thought this table had potential as a desk or a console table, so I bought it.  

When I got it home, I sanded down the middle section of the table.  

I unscrewed the side leaves and was left with just the long narrow middle section which I sealed with AS dark wax/Linseed oil. 

I mixed up my own vintage green color and made it into chalk paint. 

After painting the base of the table and distressing the edges,  I sealed it too with AS dark wax and Linseed Oil. 

This table went from uneven dinning table to a great desk or console table with a lot more function and practicality.

I love how this table turned out and my client bought it for her husband's home office.
