Grain Sack Bench

I found this bench at a local thrift store today and of course brought it home.  I love the legs on it and I knew it could be a stunner with some work.
Before:

The bench has the smooth factory finish that I don't like so much
I decided to use a piece of an antique grain sack I had left from my last project.  I mixed up white home-made chalk paint and painted the base of the bench.  While the paint was drying I stapled the grain sack to the seat.  The next thing I did was to brush on dark wax directly to the white paint.  I knew this would darken the white and it would look aged.  I had made sure as I painted the white on that I had brush strokes going many ways. The dark wax stays in the crevices created by the brush marks.  I wiped off the extra wax and then screwed on the seat and was finished.

I love antique grain sacks!
