Plank Top for my Buffet

I have had this buffet for many years and it has never had a top.  I bought it from a sale from a French Restaurant and it did have a top part, but 3 men were not able to load it in the truck so we left it at the sale and only bought the bottom. This is a very heavy piece and it has lots of storage so it has been very useful for me.  My house is over 100 years old and really does not have much storage.  It is by the door that leads from outside into the kitchen.  This is the door we use the most so I needed a place to put keys and also to store kitchen things.
Before:
I have just had a tablecloth covering the top and it was time to put a wood top on it.

I went to my local lumber store and bought some wooden planks and brought them home.  I wanted a quick and easy project and did not want to spend a lot of $ since this buffet will not be here for that much longer.  I am going to build a pantry ( my kitchen is small and lacks storage).
I just nailed the planks down on to the buffet. I like the nails showing.  (The wood only cost $12-what a deal).  After nailing the planks down I used hemp oil/dark wax to stain and seal the top.
I love how it turned out and my Husband really loves it and thinks I am very crafty!
For now the base will be just white, but I plan on painting it now that it looks so much better!

Old bottles I rescued from my Dad's 150 year old barn-love the green growing inside!

Loving it!

  7. I love the plank top and the way you have staged it.

We put a butcher block on top of a new cabinet in the kitchen. The wood top makes a nice statement.

    1. Thank you! I wanted an easy and fast fix so the planks did the trick. I am not going to keep the piece there for very long.
