French Provincial Vanity

A week of so back I found this great French Provincial Vanity at my local Flea Market and knew it could be a winner with a bit of help.  

Before:

I love the shape of this piece and the fact that the middle section opens up into a mirror.  I pulled out Coastal Bliss and Marshmallow from The Urban Rooster and mixed them together until I got a soft aqua.  After 2 coats of paint, I used a small artist brush to paint on Gilders Paste in gold.  I just felt like this piece needed a bit of gold!  I also added the gilders paste to the pulls and then sealed the vanity with tung oil/dark wax.

Transforming a Scarred desk into a Beauty

I found the very scarred up desk at the local Flea Market and knew it had a lot of potential.  

Before:

I really liked the shape and the details on the front, but the top and one of the legs were in bad shape.  I sanded down the top and it was beautiful wood, so I stained/sealed it with AS dark wax and tung oil.  The drawer fronts were also very nice, so I cleaned then up with the dark wax and tung oil too and they came back to life.  

I pulled out Marshmallow Cream by The Urban Rooster and painted the base of the desk and then distresses the edges with my scraper.  

The hardware is not my favorite for this desk, but I decided to use it anyways.  The original finish was very shiny and bright gold and I wanted to tone this down a bit.  I rubbed gilding paste on the pulls and then used AS dark wax.  

The last step was to seal the desk with AS clear wax. 

Such pretty wood!

How to Repair and Transform a Vintage Dresser

It's time for the August Fab Furniture Flipping Contest!  

This months themes is "Icing on the Cake" and the sponsor is the wonderful D. Lawless Hardware Company.

I found a great dresser on CL that needed a little TLC and I knew it would be perfect for the contest.

The finish on the dresser was a yellow with gold details and the appliqués needed some patching.  To fix the appliqués, I put joint compound on the missing sections and when it was almost dry I shaped it with my fingernail ( high tech. tool-ha ha).  
I wanted to keep the dresser pretty close to the original, so I pulled out Antique White chalk paint from The Urban Rooster  and painted the dresser and mirror with two coats.  After the paint had dried I distressed the edges and added gold gilding wax to the details.  I just rubbed the gold gilding wax on with my finger-so easy! 

The last step in this dressers transformation was adding character/aging with dark wax and tung oil.
